Meet the author and teacher
Dr. Sherri Lynn McFarland is a teacher and writer from Silver Spring, Maryland. Her academic and professional careers reflect her desire to educate people of all ages about the continent of Africa and its diaspora. Her strong interest in African people groups inspired her to attain her doctoral degree in African Studies from Howard University. She is a published social scientist who enjoys writing children’s books that encourage young readers to explore the diverse, rich cultures of people, places, and planetary wildlife inhabiting the continent of Africa and its diasporic communities. Her teaching experiences at the primary and university educational levels and her real-life experiences living and teaching in Africa have equipped her to become an influential writer who impacts all age groups. Her favorite pastimes include spending time with family and friends, reading, and drawing. She also aspires to become a children’s book illustrator.
